Rivers United coach Finidi George has dismissed any sense of anxiety as his side prepares for a must-win CAF Champions League second-leg clash against Aigles du Congo on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Rivers United boss Finidi insists no pessure ahead of decisive CAF Champions League match

The Pride of Rivers held their Congolese opponents to a goalless draw in the first leg in Brazzaville, keeping the tie finely balanced.

Finidi confident in team’s focus and fitness

Since the away-goals rule is still in play, the Nigerian side understands that nothing short of a home win will guarantee their qualification for the next round.

Speaking to the team media ahead of the decisive encounter, Finidi expressed confidence in his players’ readiness and tactical discipline.

“We are fully prepared; we have worked out strategies, and the players are fully focused on the match,” he said. “There is no pressure whatsoever. We know what to do—we have to score and defend properly.”

The coach confirmed that his squad has recovered well from the fatigue suffered in the first leg, with no injuries ahead of the clash.

This full-strength availability, he believes, could be crucial in breaking down the disciplined Congolese defence that frustrated his side in Brazzaville.

Early goals key to turning fans into the ‘12th man’

Finidi stressed the importance of starting aggressively and converting chances early to get the home crowd behind the team.

“From the blast of the whistle, we have to take the fight to them. If we can get our goals in the first half, the fans will be on our side,” he said.

The coach urged the supporters to play their part, insisting that the energy from the stands could provide the lift the team needs to secure victory and keep their continental ambitions alive.

Rivers United, who are aiming to improve on their recent underwhelming runs in the competition, are determined to avoid another early exit.

The clash in Uyo represents both a test of resilience and an opportunity to show their growth under Finidi’s leadership.
