Bayelsa United’s head coach, Diepreye Teibowei, expressed his enthusiasm following their exciting 2-1 win against Kwara United last weekend at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
This significant victory marked a turning point for Bayelsa United, ending a four-game winless streak since their opening day win in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) against Akwa United last month.
In the weekend match, Bayelsa United surprised Kwara United with a 2-1 victory. Steiner Robert Mizo emerged as the hero, scoring a remarkable brace, his fifth goal in as many games.
Diepreye Teibowei, the experienced coach of Bayelsa United, shared his post-match thoughts on the game and recognized the importance of the win.
“The win was a great relief for the team; we took the chances that came our way in the first half. We had to make some changes in order to get our rhythm back. This win will definitely lift us up as we are down on the table,” he noted.
Looking forward, he highlighted the impact of this victory on their upcoming showdown with Kano Pillars in the mid-week fixture.
Bayelsa United is optimistic about building on this momentum.
“The win will also boost our morale in the next game against Kano Pillars,” the coach added.
Following the victory, Bayelsa United moved up to the 11th position on the NPFL league table with 6 points, while Kwara United dropped to 15th, with just a one-point difference.
In other matches, former NPFL champions, Rivers United, narrowly secured a home win on Sunday, putting an end to Lobi Stars’ unbeaten streak this season at the Adokiye Stadium in Port-Harcourt.
However, Lobi Stars maintain a strong position in the league standings, sitting in sixth place, just one point ahead of the Port Harcourt outfit in 10th.
