David Philip, the captain of Akwa United, has expressed deep concern about the team’s current position in the NPFL standings.
So far, the Promise Keepers have only secured three points from five matches.
Philip sees their upcoming mid-week fixture as a chance for the players to redeem themselves and improve their position in the league.
Philip finds it astonishing that Akwa United hasn’t secured a victory in their first five matches.
He emphasized that the team’s current place in the standings doesn’t accurately reflect their performance on the field.
He stated, “Our position on the league table is a matter of great concern to everyone at the club, and we are fully aware that it is up to us to get it right in our next game.”
The stand-in captain is determined to showcase the team’s potential by achieving their first win of the season when they face Gombe United at the Eket Stadium on Wednesday.
He acknowledged the challenge but assured, “We know it’s not going to be easy, but we are prepared and ready to give our all and ensure we record victory.”
Moreover, Philip emphasized the competitiveness of the league and how a win could significantly boost their confidence and improve their standing in the standings.
He believes that their victory for the Fatai Osho side on Wednesday could mark a turning point for their season.
Akwa United approaches the game with confidence, holding a favorable head-to-head record against Gombe United.
The Promise Keepers have won eight matches against Gombe United’s three, with three draws. The visitors have lost in all their previous seven visits to Akwa Ibom.
The match is scheduled to begin at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, and live updates will be available on all of Akwa United’s social media platforms.
