EFL Cup: Two late goals see Chelsea beat Brentford

Chelsea secured their place in the EFL Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 win over Brentford on Wednesday evening.

In the first half, the Bees enjoyed a number of good chances but failed to take advantage of them.

After the restart, Thomas Tuchel’s side gained control of the game, but it took until the 80th minute to break the tie. Chelsea took the lead as Pontus Jansson diverted Reece James’ cross into his own net.

Referee Andre Marriner pointed to the spot after Alvaro Fernandez pulled down Christian Pulisic in the box.

Jorginho sealed the Blues’ place in the semi-finals by slotting his effort into the bottom-left corner.

On Boxing Day, Brentford travel to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.

Chelsea is in action on the same day as Aston Villa in an away match.

The Blues will take on Tottenham in the last four of the Carabao Cup. Ties are due to take place weeks commencing 3rd and 10th January.
