As the Super Eagles step up preparations for their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, Sevilla striker Akor Adams has expressed pride and determination after receiving his first-ever call-up to the Nigerian senior national team.
The 25-year-old forward, who once represented Nigeria at the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup, returns to the national fold six years later, this time as a full international.
Akor Adams eager to make impact in first Super Eagles call-up
Adams made his mark at Montpellier in French Ligue 1 before earning a move to La Liga, where he now making progress at Sevilla.
Speaking in a video shared via the Super Eagles’ social media account, Akor Adams expressed his excitement and readiness to contribute to Nigeria’s World Cup push.
“I don’t think there is a breaking in, personally. I just have to give what I can for the team. In general, whoever’s playing, we give support. And if you’re called upon by the coach, you do your best,” Adams said.
Super Eagles striker focused on teamwork and unity
The new invitee emphasised the spirit of togetherness within the camp, highlighting the team’s collective ambition to reach the 2026 World Cup.
“There are a couple of guys that I’m in touch with, but I’m looking forward to making more relationships and also better friendships,” he added.
Adams will join his Super Eagles teammates to battle Lesotho on Friday before hosting Benin Republic in Uyo.
Nigeria currently sits third in Group C with 11 points, three behind leaders Benin Republic and South Africa.
His arrival adds depth to an attacking lineup already stacked with Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Terem Moffi, and Tolu Arokodare, but might likely not make his full debut.
However, the striker has been in rich form in Spain, finding the net in back-to-back La Liga games, including a standout performance in Sevilla’s 4–1 victory over Barcelona.
His confidence, energy, and hunger to perform for Nigeria have made him one of the most exciting new additions to the Super Eagles setup.
