Lesotho captain Sekhoane Moerane has sent a bold message ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, declaring that the Crocodiles will step onto the pitch without fear.
Tonight’s encounter at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane holds major implications for Nigeria, who are chasing much-needed points to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
Lesotho captain: ‘We will respect Nigeria, but not fear them’
The two sides last met in November 2023, playing out a tense 1–1 draw at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
This time, three-time African champions will be expected to assert their superiority and make a statement of intent.
However, Moerane insists his side will not be intimidated by Nigeria’s reputation.
“Going into tomorrow’s game, we are not going to show fear because one thing we have to do is not to fear our opponents, but we should give them respect,” Moerane said during his interaction with the media ahead of the game.
“We will be going with a lot of respect but not showing fear, and that simply means we are going to go and give them our best of what we have.

“We are not doing anyone a favour but playing for our country, playing for Basotho.”
Super Eagles under pressure to deliver in Polokwane
Despite being firm favourites, Nigeria have found themselves in a precarious position during the qualifiers, with dropped points earlier in the campaign putting added weight on every remaining fixture.
While Lesotho sit fifth in the group with nine points and no chance of qualification, they could still disrupt Nigeria’s campaign.
The Super Eagles must approach this match with precision and purpose. Anything less than a win will completely complicate their route to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making tonight’s contest a crucial moment in their journey.
