Kelvin Wilson, a former Nottingham Forest defender, has warned Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi to start scoring important goals for the club or face the consequences of underperformance.
In a conversation with Nottingham Forest News, Wilson expressed concerns about the dwindling patience among the club’s fans regarding Awoniyi’s performance.
He emphasized the urgency for the Super Eagles star to start delivering results promptly, especially considering the team’s precarious position in the English Premier League (EPL).
“Have we got time to be patient? Time is running out but we need him to start firing now. I know he’s been injured but the pressure is on and we need him to perform,” Wilson said.
“Ideally, we’d be mid-table and we could keep bringing him on for the last 20 minutes to get his fitness up. We don’t have the luxury to give him time, we need him to be scoring goals.”
Awoniyi’s six goals and three assists in seventeen league appearances have been of little help to Forest’s survival hopes.
Football411 earlier reported that Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney urged Awoniyi to work on his positioning if he wants to improve his goal-scoring efficiency.
Currently winless in their last three games, Nuno Espiríto Santo’s side sits 17th on the log, just three points above the relegation zone with eleven more games to the conclusion of the 2023/24 EPL season.
