The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped two places to 30th position in the latest FIFA rankings released on April 4, 2024.
The Eagles had 1522.26 points on the 28th position in the last rankings released on February 15, 2024, a few days after winning silver at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Nigeria are now ranked 30 with 1520.27 points. This decline comes in the wake of the Eagles’ mixed performances under interim coach Finidi George in the March international friendlies where they defeated Ghana 2-1 and lost to Mali 2-0 at the Stade Marrakech in Morocco.
Despite slipping on the global standing, the Super Eagles maintain their position as the third-best team in Africa, behind Morocco and Senegal who are ranked 13 and 17 globally.
Currently without a head coach, the Nigeria men’s national team could improve on their rankings if they get positive results against South Africa and Benin Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches coming up in June.
