On Saturday, April 2nd, 2022, Akwa United will be hosting their Nigeria Professional Football League counterparts – Rivers United in Uyo.
The Port Harcourt team won the rematch 4-1 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Rivers State on March 20.
The Stanley Eguma side will be looking to expand their lead at the top the NPFL rankings if they defeat the Promise Keepers in one of the most anticipated matches on Saturday.
The ‘Pride of Rivers’ are aware that they will be facing a team anxious to turn their league woes around after gaining just one point in their last three games.
The Rivers United technical manager, expects a tough match but is optimistic that his team will not return to Port Harcourt empty-handed.
“The game against Akwa United is a big game and we intend to start the second round well; with a good result in Uyo. We expect a difficult game and we have to work very hard if we must achieve our desired result,” Eguma said.
If Saturday’s game sparks half as much excitement as the opposite match in Port Harcourt last month, we’re in for a cracker.
In the seventeen meetings between the two teams, Rivers United has won eight and Akwa United has won six. Three of the matches have ended in a stalemate.
