In their temporary Abeokuta home, Remo Stars announced themselves on the continental stage with a statement 4-0 victory over Comoros champions Zilimadjou in the CAF Champions League preliminary round opener.
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions dominated from the first whistle, delivering the most impressive performance by a Nigerian club in Africa since 2022.
Remo Stars storm ahead with early dominance
The breakthrough came in the 12th minute when Leonard Ngenge capitalised on a loose ball from a corner to slot a composed finish past the Zilimadjou goalkeeper.
The Sky Blue Stars’ intensity never let up, and just before halftime, Ebuka Anthony doubled the lead and excitement at the M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium.
Abubakar’s precise pass found Chilekwu, who cut the ball back for Anthony to slot low into the net.
The second half saw Malian star Adama Goita add a third goal, expertly finishing a cross from Ibrahim Abubakar midway through the session.
The victory was sealed late when substitute Samson Olasupo completed the rout, finishing off a move initiated by Haruna Hadi.
True to his reputation, Olasupo made an impact off the bench, ensuring the Ikenne Boys earned their biggest ever win in a continental competition.
That victory means Remo are now one foot closer to their tie with South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in the next round.
“We are ready” — Remo boss Ogunmodede
Head coach of the team Daniel Ogunmodede reflected on the team’s remarkable progress:

“Some years ago, we were struggling in the second division, but today we are NPFL champions. Now we want to prove ourselves on the continent. This victory shows we are ready.”
With a commanding advantage, Remo Stars will now prepare for the reverse fixture, carrying the momentum and belief that they can make a deep run in Africa’s premier club competition.
