Rivers United on Thursday afternoon bounced back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Lobi Stars at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The Stanley Eguma side sealed the win during their NPFL matchday 21 to put behind them the 1-1 away tie with Akwa United in Uyo.
Rivers United won 1-0 over Lobi Stars, giving the Pride of Rivers the victory and all three points at home.
Nyima Nwagua’s superb finish from outside the area gave the Pride of Rivers the lead barely 15 minutes into the game.
The forward used his chest to grip the ball and fired a powerful shot beyond Lobi Stars goalkeeper.
Rivers United came close to double their lead 16 minutes later when Nyima Nwagua’s quick passing allowed Ishaq Kayode a shot on goal, but his effort was deflected for a corner kick.
In the second half, the home team continued to play with the same zeal, seeking to expand their lead.
Benard Ovoke came on in the 84th minute to replace the goal scorer, Nyima Nwagua but the game ended with the lone goal.
Stanley Eguma will be delighted with his team’s performance in the match, as they were victorious.
The Port Harcourt side retains their two points gap at the top of the Nigerian Professional Football League, and they will aim to preserve that lead against Katsina United on April 11.
