NPFL21: Sunshine leaves Owena Babes as Enyimba triumph in Agege

211

The Sun has literally refused to shine on Gbenga Ogunbote and his Stars from Akure following another win-less outing in the NPFL21 on Monday.

The Owena Babes lost 0-1 to Enyimba International at their temporary home, the Soccer Temple in Agege, Lagos State,  where they have been banished by the LMC after that altercation with Ifeanyi Ubah FC the last time out.

Samson Obi scored the only goal of the game in the second half when he latched on to a pass from new Super Eagles goalkeeper, John Noble, to calmly slot home.

Despite a dominant second 45 from Sunshine Stars following a rather dull opening half of the game, it was the People’s Elephant who had the last laugh courtesy of that man Obi.

The latest setback for Ogunbote and Stars means they stretch their poor run to ten matches without a win,  leaving them just one point above the dreaded relegation zone now.

For the visitors,  while Anayo Iwuala and Noble were the cynosure of all eyes that came to Agege, they will only care about the win and a swift return to winning ways following the defeat to Orlando Pirates in the CAFCC.

In addition to that, Fatai Osho’s Aba giants, with the win, have moved up to fifth on the NPFL table on 27 points, three points behind leaders, Kwara United with four matches in hand.

The Elephants return to Agege to face MFM FC on Thursday with a win in that game set to see them climb as high as second depending on goal difference.

Other teams in the top four include second placed Rangers international, who saw off Nasarawa United 2-0 in Enugu and Kano Pillars in third, both teams are also on 30 points.
