Sunday’s Oriental Derby between Abia Warriors and Enyimba at the Umuahia Township Stadium ended in a goalless draw, but it was anything but dull during the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) week 12.
Both sides fought so hard for bragging rights in front of an exciting crowd, yet neither could find the decisive touch as the encounter produced another story of this southeastern rivalry.
Abia Warriors show grit but lack cutting edge in NPFL week 12
Abia Warriors: The hosts came into the clash looking to continue their fine run, having picked up three wins in their last four outings.
Despite showing defensive organisation and energy in midfield, their lack of finishing touch remains a concern heading into their next fixture.

Enyimba: The People’s Elephant arrived in Umuahia buoyed by improving form, including a key victory against Kano Pillars that has restored belief after a patchy campaign that saw them go five games without a win—two consecutive draws and three straight defeats.
With attacking threats like Kalu Nweke, Joseph Atule, and Edidiong Ezikiel, Enyimba are looking more adventurous; the former champions couldn’t break through the Warriors’ compact defensive block.
The clash carried more than just three points — it was about regional pride and momentum.
Enyimba, former African champions, travelled with hundreds of supporters hoping to see their side impose dominance, while Abia Warriors were determined to hold their own at home.
Both teams created half-chances but lacked composure in the final third.
The fierce rivals saw both sides share the spoils in Umuahia after the final whistle as defences stood tall and chances went begging in NPFL week 12.
Meetings between these two Abia clubs have often been close, and Sunday’s encounter was no exception.
What’s next for both sides?
While Enyimba have historically held the upper hand with ten wins in 13 meetings, Abia Warriors continue to make the derby increasingly competitive, though they’ve managed just one win and two draws.
Enyimba return home next weekend to face Wikki Tourists, aiming to rediscover their scoring form, while Abia Warriors will visit Bayelsa United hoping to turn solid performances into wins once again.
The derby result keeps Abia Warriors in second place with 22 points, one more behind league leaders Nasarawa United, while Enyimba remain in 6th with 17 points.
Rangers, Ikorodu City, and Wikki Tourists shine elsewhere
In other NPFL week 12 games, Rangers edged Shooting Stars 1-0 in Enugu, with Chidozie Iwundu’s first-half strike sealing the win and lifting them to 10th place on 16 points, just above their opponents in 11th.

Ikorodu City grabbed the only away victory of the day, beating Warri Wolves 2-0 in Ozoro through goals from Tomisin Adebayo and Goodluck Anuba.

League leaders Nasarawa United stayed top after a 1-1 draw with Kwara United in Lafia, as Anas Yusuf’s early opener was cancelled out by Aule Johnmark before halftime.
In Bauchi, Nasiru Jibrin struck late to hand Wikki Tourists a 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes, while Kano Pillars were held to a goalless draw by Bayelsa United.

Katsina United and Barau drew 1–1 in their NPFL match at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.
Uche Collins gave Katsina the lead before Orji Kalu equalised for Barau. Katsina extended their unbeaten run to three games, climbing to seventh, while Barau remain 18th.
Both teams aim to improve as the season reaches mid-point.
