Shooting Stars manager Gbenga Ogunbote has expressed his disappointment with his side’s narrow 1-0 loss to Enyimba in their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday 20 fixture.
Coming from a 1-0 victory over Rivers United at the Lekan Salami Stadium in their last match, the Oluyole Warriors fell to Chijoke Mbaoma’s first-half goal for the People’s Elephants at the Enyimba International Stadium on Saturday.
Speaking to the club’s media post-match, the ex-Remo Stars coach said, “The game has been won and lost, we will take the positives. Be it as it may, sometimes, you give it your all but you don’t get the desired result, at worse, we deserve a point from this game,” Complete Sports reports.
“We were careless with the goal we conceded today, it’s a situation we could have avoided.”
Ogunbote, however, maintained optimism in his team’s ability to bounce back from the disappointment and strive for improvement in the second half of the season.
“Sometimes, it happens like that in the game. We will go back home, pick up the pieces and let’s see what happens.
“This is the first game, we still have about 18 games in the second stanza, all we need to do is to see what we needed to do that we didn’t do right in this game, and once we get that done, I’m sure we will get it right,” he concluded.
Currently positioned 11th on the log, next up for Shooting Stars and Gbenga Ogunbote will be a trip to New Jos Stadium where they’ll face Plateau United on Saturday, February 25, 2024.
