Two South-West clubs were responsible for breaking the unbeaten runs of two northern clubs; Ikorodu City ended Katsina United’s 942-day unbeaten home run while 3SC showed class in Adamasingba, all adding to the delight of Matchday 11.
It was a matchday of broken unbeaten streaks in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Matchday 11. Newcomers Ikorodu City earned a 2-1 comeback victory over Katsina United to end their two-year unbeaten home run at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium. Meanwhile, El-Kanemi Warriors’s 10-game unbeaten streak in the 2024/25 season was also halted by Shooting Stars at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Sunday, November 10.
Coming off a 2-0 win that ended Rivers United’s 10-match unbeaten streak on Matchday 10, Ikorodu, who had just three wins in the 2024/25 NPFL season was up against a Katsina side with five victories. The Changi Boys appeared on course for a sixth win when Moses Achare gave them an 18th-minute lead. However, the Oga Boys rallied, with Alade Solomon heading in Emmanuel Solomon’s cross in the 44th minute to level the score before halftime.
Despite a series of substitutions in the second half, the match seemed destined for a draw until the 89th minute, when Alade Solomon—who assisted Ikorodu’s first goal—scored to secure the Oga Boys’s second consecutive away win, ending Katsina’s 942-day unbeaten home run in the NPFL.
In Ibadan, El-Kanemi Warriors showed little signs of their season-long trademark resistance as they fell 3-0 to Shooting Stars. First-half goals from Samuel Ayanrinde and Abubakar Ibrahim were followed by Adam Mustapha’s 61st-minute strike, sealing 3SC’s fourth win of the season and ending the Maiduguri-based team’s unbeaten run.
Meanwhile, it ended goalless in the top-of-the-table clash between Enyimba FC and Remo Stars in Aba. Despite head coach Yemi Olarenwaju’s vow to end Remo’s dominance over the People’s Elephants, the nine-time NPFL champions could only manage a draw against Remo who maintain their number one position on the log after Rivers United suffered another defeat at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Finidi George’s Rivers were largely tipped to rebound from their defeat to Ikorodu on Matchday 10, only to fall to a 1-0 home defeat to Bayelsa United which leaves them one point behind Remo in the title race.
Other Sunday results saw Heartland and Niger Tornadoes clinch 1-0 home victories over Sunshine Stars and Akwa United, respectively. On Friday, Kano Pillars secured a late 1-0 win over Bendel Insurance, while Lobi Stars earned a well-deserved 3-1 victory over Abia Warriors.
