Though Enyimba are winless in their last five encounters with Remo Stars, head coach Yemi Olanrewaju insists the People’s Elephants will rewrite history in Sunday’s NPFL showdown.
Yemi Olanrewaju, head coach of Enyimba FC, has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to break Remo Stars’s recent dominance of his side when both teams clash in their 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 11 fixture on Sunday, November 10.
Enyimba, currently third on the NPFL table with 18 points, can draw level with league leaders Remo Stars, who sit on 21 points if they secure a victory in Aba. However, history is not on Enyimba’s side; the People’s Elephants have failed to win any of their last five encounters with Remo, losing three and drawing two.
Reflecting on this record and the match, Olanrewaju remarked, “It’s like a derby; our games with them are always very tough, even though they have held an edge over us for the past season and a half. But this is our home game. We want to enjoy it and go for the maximum points. We know it’s going to be a really tough battle.
“Yes, we understand the importance of playing Remo Stars. They are a tough side and a top club, too. We respect them, and they will respect us. But on the pitch, we understand what is at stake for us as a club. So, we have to go for it.
Despite a few injury concerns, the 32-year-old remains optimistic. “Even though we have one or two injuries among our key players. But we have to manage what we have, and our current squad is capable of getting the job done.
“We’re aiming to have a good game on Sunday and to make everyone happy – that’s our focus.”
