The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 34 opening fixtures saw Doma United secure a 1-0 victory over Lobi Stars in Gombe, as Remo Stars kept it late to grind a 2-1 win over Kano Pillars in Ikenne.
Coming off a 3-1 loss to Pillars last Sunday, Doma United who had won just two times in their last 17 matches started the game against Lobi with an evident intent at the Pantami Stadium.
Barely three minutes into the encounter, a great chance fell to Musa Usman, but the forward could only direct his effort wide. Usman will, however, give his side the lead in the 33rd minute, as he directed Bidemi Owoku’s cross past the goalkeeper to net the game’s only goal.
The reverse was the case in Ikenne where Remo Stars handed Pillars their first defeat in sixth trial.
Ahmed Akinyele headed the hosts ahead in the sixth minute before Mustapha Salisu equalised for the Sai Masu Gida a few minutes into the second half.
The intense and cagey affair at the Remo Stars stadium seemed destined for a draw until captain Nduka Junior scored the winner in the last minute of added time to grab all three points for the hosts.
The victory took the Daniel Ogunmodede-led side to second place with 59 points, two above Enyimba who’ll lock horns with Rivers United in their Matchday 34 fixture on Sunday, June 2.
