The 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champion Rangers International ended their campaign with a 2-1 victory over relegated Gombe United to become the eighth club to seal the title with 70+ points in a 20-team regular season.
Having clinched the NPFL title last Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Bendel Insurance at the Cathedral, the Flying Antelopes received a guard of honour from officials and the Savannah Scorpions at the New Jos Stadium.
Gombe hosted Rangers away from their home and an hour earlier than the scheduled start time for all concluding matches due to a location conflict with fellow Gombe-based club Doma United, who faced Abia Warriors at Pantami Stadium.
It was a dominant display for Rangers took the lead three minutes into the encounter through Kazeem Ogunleye who fired in around the penalty spot to give the champions the lead before Godwin Obaje made it 2-0 four minutes later.
Anas Hassan pulled one back for the Savannah Scorpions a few minutes before the halftime break, but the intense first half didn’t run off on the second, as both teams fired blank throughout the second forty-five minutes.
The victory made sure Rangers sealed their title-winning season with 70 points, completing a double over Gombe having defeated them 4-1 in their season’s first season.
