Rangers International have won their eighth Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, following a 2-0 win over Bendel Insurance in their penultimate 2023/24 matchday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Sunday, June 16.
Coming off a 1-0 loss to Shooting Stars on Wednesday, Rangers, courtesy of goals from Kenechukwu Agu and Chidiebere Nwobodo in both halves of the game secured the win that made them the second most successful club in the NPFL, trailing defending champions Enyimba who fell against Sporting Lagos.
Despite head coach Yemi Olanrewaju’s promise of getting back to winning ways, the People’s Elephants suffered a 2-1 defeat to Sporting Lagos at the Onikan Stadium, as the Noisy Lagosians intensified efforts to avoid relegation.
Other results saw Sunshine Stars defeat Remo Stars 2-1 in Akure after both teams suffered a red card. Abia Warriors were also 2-0 victors over Akwa United, as Bayelsa United kept it late to defeat Shooting Stars 2-1 to increase their hopes of staying afloat in the league.
