Interestingly, these two football heavyweights haven’t faced off in a meaningful match since Juventus’ 9-2 aggregate victory in the 1996 UEFA Super Cup and this will be their first match of the 2022–23 season.

A lot has changed since then, as shown by the fact that PSG’s growth has shot through the roof since being obtained by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011.

They have clearly benefited from the advent of a very wealthy owner in their efforts to sign superstar players like Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Lionel Messi.

However, the French champions have yet to claim the Champions League; their 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the 2020 title fight was the closest they came to doing so.

The Parisians had a 2-0 aggregate lead with only 30 minutes remaining at the Bernabeu Stadium, but they were ultimately defeated by Real Madrid in the round of 16 of the 2021–22 season.

Karim Benzema was outstanding in that particular game when his quick-fire hat-trick turned the tide and prevented the French Ligue 1 club from reaching the highest level yet again.

Meanwhile, Juventus are yet to win the Serie A since 2020 and there is no expectations season. But then, Massimiliano Allegri, will undoubtedly aim to at least meet those standards.

After five league games, the Serie A powerhouses are still undefeated and have only allowed two goals, which puts them just few points behind the current league leader – AC Milan and Napoli. They clearly have a solid basis upon which to build when they meet PSG.

They must play their best defense if they are to stop PSG’s elite players from wrecking havoc at Parc des Princes tonight.

And based on his claim that he is “completely prepared” for today’s Champions League game on his social media page, Neymar is surely aware of this.
