Thousands of fans witnessed another dramatic showdown on Sunday as Kano Pillars sealed a hard-fought 1-0 win over Enugu Rangers during matchday 4 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Super Eagles legend Ahmed Musa, now doubling as both player and general manager, became the first in NPFL history to score in such a dual role—his decisive strike proving the difference in a tense battle.
Kano Pillars Secure First Win of the Season
For the northern giants, this was more than just three points. Pillars had started the season slowly, struggling in their first three fixtures.
But Musa’s goal, coming after several missed chances—including a missed penalty from Rabiu Ali—finally lifted the pressure off the home team.
Speaking after the match, Kano Pillars coach Ahmed Garba Yaro Yaro expressed satisfaction with his players’ response.
“We deserve these three points because the boys tried their possible best, and they worked hard, and at the end, they got the result. There is nothing bad in the game; the match officials tried their possible best, and the officiating was fair.”
Coach Ekeh Ekenedilichukwu Praises Rangers Despite Defeat
On the other side, Coach Ekeh Ekenedilichukwu remained upbeat despite the defeat, highlighting the commitment of the Flying Antelopes in a game filled with missed opportunities.

Though they failed to find the net, the Coal City side pushed hard for an equaliser and kept fighting until the final whistle.
“My team played vividly very well. They played a very strong and nice game. They played to instructions, they played to score, and they played to defend the badge,” coach Ekeh said.
With the result, Kano Pillars finally secured their first league win of the season, while Rangers must regroup quickly as they chase consistency.
