Chukwueze’s impressive preseason form birthed convictions of a better season, but the Super Eagles winger has only started two out of five matches this season, averaging 32 minutes per game.
AC Milan’s head coach, Paulo Fonseca, has urged Samuel Chukwueze to regain his confidence if he’s to secure more playing time.Chukwueze’s impressive preseason form birthed convictions—both from the player and his teammate, Rafael Leao—of a better 2024/25 season. However, the former Villarreal winger has only started two out of five matches, averaging 32 minutes per game.
Reacting to the player’s form, Fonseca said, “It’s not a problem of quality but of confidence.
“He had a very good preseason when he had space against big teams. When we came here, against Torino and Lazio, I think Chukwu was not as good as in preseason.
“He needs to gain confidence and play in this context: in Serie A, he has no space, he has to make movements at the right time, and he has little time to decide.
“He came on and did well against Inter; he has to grow in games, maybe like tomorrow’s, without space. He must grow in this.”
This remains an ongoing challenge for Chukwueze who’s into his second season at Milan. Previously, the Rossoneri’s last coach, Stefano Pioli, admonished the Super Eagles winger to be more consistent with goals and assists if he intends to displace Christian Pulisic as a starter.
