AC Milan’s star forward Rafael Leão has tipped Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze for a breakout campaign in the 2024/25 season.
Chukwueze has been one of Milan’s standout performers in their pre-season preparations in the United States. The 25-year-old contributed two assists in the Rossoneri’s 3-2 win over Manchester City on Saturday and scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Chukwueze attributed his impressive pre-season form to the trust of new head coach Paulo Fonseca. The Nigerian also said it’s an indicator that he’s going to redeem himself after a disappointing debut season in Italy.
“I like the new coach. He gave me an opportunity straight away, and it’s important when someone trusts you. The fans will see a new Samu this year,” the winger said after the win over City.
Leão echoed similar sentiments, highlighting Chukwueze’s newfound confidence as a catalyst for increased productivity.
“When you don’t play a lot, it becomes difficult to show what you can do, but from what I’ve seen, Chuk has more confidence, he wants to have the ball and make a difference,” the Portuguese winger said.
“That’s what I was waiting for. If he continues like this, he’ll have a great season.”
Meanwhile, coach Fonseca has also declared his trust in Chukwueze’s potential to be the difference for the 19-time Serie A champions in the 2024/25 season.
“Last year, he didn’t play much, and when a new coach arrives, everyone wants to show what they can do,” Fonseca said.
“I’m really happy for him; he’s doing really, really well. I think he’ll be important to the team and will make the difference.”
