Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has assured AC Milan fans of a stronger performance in the 2024/25 season. The 25-year-old made this promise following his impressive display in Milan’s 3-2 win over Manchester City on Saturday, July 27.
Chuwueze grabbed two assists as Milan came back from a goal down to defeat Pep Guardiola’s City 3-2 in a pre-season fixture at the Yankee Stadium in New York on Saturday.
The 25-year-old started the fixture against City, which was a development given he was mostly deployed as a substitute for the Rossoneri last season.
Reacting to his performance, Chukwueze hailed his new coach Paulo Fonseca for the opportunity and trust, which he claims are important for optimum delivery.
“I like the new coach. He gave me an opportunity straight away, and it’s important when someone trusts you. The fans will see a new Samu this year,” Chukwueze said in an interview with Milan TV.
“We still have a lot to learn about the coach’s schemes. We made some mistakes but we managed to limit them and we took our chances. We have to continue working and stay focused on the season. I’m very happy to be part of the team from the beginning. I hope to be able to give my best for the team this season to show my worth,” the 25-year-old added.
Chukwueze joined Milan from Spanish La Liga side Villarreal last summer, in a deal worth about €20 million, plus €8 million euros in add-ons. The Nigerian signed a five-year deal.
However, the 2015 U-17 FIFA World Cup winner struggled in his debut season in the Italian Seria A, managing three goals and one assist in 24 league appearances.
