CAF to introduce VAR in World Cup play-offs

The African Football Confederation (CAF), have decided that VAR would be used in the qualifying round of the World Cup in Qatar.CAF to introduce VAR in World Cup play-offs

CAF on Friday conducted an Extraordinary General Assembly to discuss important concerns in African football.

In response to SAFA and Bafana Bafana’s complaints about poor officiating and possible match manipulation, FIFA head Gianni Infantino and CAF president Patrice Motsepe have agreed to employ VAR for the 2022 African World Cup playoffs.

This follows a big appeal by SAFA against referee Maguette Ndiaye and a recent protest by Benin against Gabon’s Eric Otogo-Castane.

Meanwhile, CAF has confirmed that the 2022 FIFA World Cup final play-offs will not be held outside of Africa, and that the draw for those qualifications has been postponed.
