While playing for Chelsea against RB Salzburg in the Champions League, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang once again failed to find the back of the net.
The forward, who was just recruited by Tuchel before leaving office, is currently pleading with the fans to give him some time because he is going through a trying time and needs to fully recover as soon as possible.
Graham Potter’s Champions League debut ended in a stalemate, which wasn’t a happy ending, but he will have gained so much knowledge from his team’s performance.
Potter had a difficult start to his new career as Chelsea and Red Bull Salzburg’s Champions League meeting on Wednesday resulted in a 1-1 tie, leaving the Blues at the bottom of their group after two matches.
The West London team appeared to have total control of the match after scoring the opening goal, but Potter found out just how tough the competition is after the final whistle.
With Sterling’s lovely curl, his team took the lead, which was precisely what they earned. However, the Blues continued to struggle to beat their opponents as usual when Okafor thwarted Potter’s joyful celebration with 15 minutes remaining.
Aubameyang had multiple chances to score, but sadly for him, Bernardo stopped him in each and every instance.
The finest of the bunch was Sterling, while Mount and Ziyech also had opportunities but fell short of grabbing their goal scoring moments.
Although the new manager saw some progress, there were also some well-known problems that highlights the fact of the amount of work that still has to be done to make Chelsea compete on both the domestic and European sides.
Despite using a different playing style and formation, the Chelsea team largely achieved the same results. Both offensively and defensively, Chelsea made sloppy mistakes.
Even if it might only be a matter of making sure the players get accustomed to the new system, Potter’s new team will need to perform at its best on both ends of the field.
Aubameyang also addressed Chelsea fans after the game, saying the following remarks;
“I’m going to need more time, I’m not 100% fine, it’s not easy to play with a mask and an injury, let’s hope I recover 100% as soon as possible”
