France got their World Cup defence off to a winning start by easily beating Australia in a five-goal thriller, thanks to brace from Olivier Giroud at Al Janoub Stadium.
Les Bleus were caught off surprise by Goodwin’s first goal, which was the fastest of the World Cup so far, but they weren’t discouraged and proceeded to score four more goals without giving one back.
Australia made an effort to stop a corner kick but eventually gave up, allowing France to tie the score through Rabiot. Theo Hernandez chipped the ball back into the penalty area, and Rabiot headed it past the Australia goalie.
With 32 minutes into the game, Giroud increased their advantage before Mbappe made it 3-0 in the 68th. Giroud doubled his game total three minutes later to ensure that Australia can’t find their way back into the match.
The AC Milan player will undoubtedly be happy with his brace, and Mbappe and Rabiot were equally outstanding as always.
