AS Monaco forward – Breel Embolo, was the star of the game as Switzerland secured narrow victory over Cameroon on Thursday afternoon thanks to his lone goal, giving them all three points.
In the opening World Cup game of Group G, which was goalless at the half, Cameroon had the greater prospects.
Mbeumo’s chance to score was the best for the African team. He raced down the left side of the box, missed Choupo-Moting in the middle, and fired a bullet shot right at Sommer.
Later in the half, after a quick one-two between Mbeumo and Choupo-Moting, Hongla scooped up the ball on the right and tried to shoot, but the Switzerland goalkeeper saved it.

Despite having their greatest chance of the first half through Akanji, Switzerland was unable to register a shot on goal. The Man City player who leapt the highest attempted to connect with Vargas’ corner, but he was unsuccessful.
Even though they were the better team in the opening minutes, Switzerland didn’t seem particularly dangerous offensively.
Even Shaqiri found it difficult to have an impact for parts of the first half. However, Switzerland soon took the lead three minutes into the second half.
After Xhaka passed the ball to Shaqiri on the right, he cuts it across the box, where Cameroonian-born Breel Embolo easily hammered his effort past Onana from close range.

Shaqiri’s right-side pass set up Embolo, who managed to slip past the Cameroon defense before smashing the ball into the back of the net for the game’s decisive goal and all three points.
Embolo, the Cameroonian-born, scored for Switzerland against Cameroon and decided not to celebrate his first World Cup goal.
Meanwhile, Switzerland didn’t let Cameroon create much after taking the lead through the AS Monaco forward and this continued until end of the game.
Currently, the Indomitable Lions have been beaten in all eight of their last World Cup games.
