Watford defender, William Troost-Ekong has now reached 50 caps for Nigeria – the 26th Super Eagle to reach this mark.
The defender, who helped Watford clinch promotion to English top flight grabbed his 50th appearance for Nigeria when they faced Liberia during the world cup qualifiers in Lagos.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a 2-0 win over the Lone Stars, thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho who scored twice to seal the win and Troost-Ekong was solid at the back to help keep a clean sheet in the game.
Moments after the win over Liberia, the Watford man said;
“+3! First step towards Qatar 2022!
Well done to all the boys. On a personal note very special to play my 50th Cap for the Super Eagles. Onwards and upwards from here.”
The 28-year-old played once for Holland Under-19s and twice for the Under-20s before switching his allegiance and winning his first cap as a 21-year-old in a 2-0 win over Chad in 2015.
