Kalidou Koulibaly has explained why he left Chelsea and joined Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.
Despite leaving Serie side Napoli in 2022 to Premier League, Koulibaly’s time at the club was short due to injuries, which limited his playing time.
He decided to leave Chelsea for several reasons. Koulibaly expressed his dissatisfaction with sitting on the bench and not contributing to the team’s success.
He wanted regular playing time and made up his mind to go where he felt wanted.
Joining Al Hilal also presented a significant financial opportunity, which he admitted would help support his family and his philanthropic endeavors in Senegal.
Additionally, as a devout Muslim, Koulibaly saw the move to Al Hilal as an opportunity to be in a country that aligns with his religious beliefs.
Despite high expectations, injuries prevented Koulibaly from showcasing his full potential at Chelsea, and he acknowledged his disappointment with the just concluded campaign with the Blues.
