Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi has expressed renewed optimism about Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite facing a near-impossible task in the final stretch of Group C.
Moffi returns to the national team after more than a year, stepping into a high-pressure situation as Nigeria prepares for its last two qualifying matches.
Terem Moffi leads Super Eagles’ fight for World Cup qualification
The Super Eagles sit third in the group, trailing leaders Benin and second-placed South Africa by four points.
With only two games remaining, Nigeria must win both emphatically and hope the results in other fixtures swing in their favour.
The scenario is daunting. South Africa will host Zimbabwe and Rwanda, while Benin also faces challenging fixtures.
This combination makes Nigeria’s World Cup ambitions highly unlikely on paper.
Yet, Moffi remains confident. “We the guys, we’re really confident about qualifying for the World Cup. We have to do our part and wait for the result of the other teams. We are confident that things will go our way,” he told NFF TV.
Slim chances, high stakes, and Moffi’s potential impact
Although the OGC Nice striker may not start, as head coach Eric Chelle will obviously select Victor Osimhen and Tolu Arokodare in attack, Moffi’s presence adds depth to Nigeria’s forward line.
If given the opportunity, he could become a decisive factor in these critical fixtures. His pace, movement, and clinical finishing give the Super Eagles a crucial weapon as they chase an improbable ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
