Hugo Viana, Sporting CP’s technical director, has denied reports that the team will re-sign Manchester United sensation Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, but he has left the door open for a future reunion.
At the age of 12, Ronaldo enrolled in Sporting’s academy, where he began his professional career. After a season with their first team and a strong performance in a friendly game against the Red Devils, he earned his first transfer to Old Trafford in 2003.
However, Ronaldo’s second stint with the Red Devils hasn’t been as successful. After only one season back at Man Utd, transfer speculation have started to circulate, with Chelsea reportedly interested in signing him.

According to information obtained by Football411, from recent talks between new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly and agent Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo’s name has popped up.
Sporting and Roma have recently expressed interest in the 37-year-old, but Manchester United is certain the former Real Madrid star will remain at Old Trafford.
The legendary Portuguese player should not, according to Sporting’s technical director Viana, return home at this time. Instead, Man Utd should focus on starting over with him.
“I think not now – I don’t think it is possible, but you never know. He can decide where he goes, but you never know the future. I don’t want to talk about that, but he has another year on his contract so whatever he decides, let’s see,” Viana told Sky Sports.
Hugo Viana further said that;
“It is time for Man Utd to stabilise, to create a good spirit inside the club. I think it is not what’s happening now, but there it always time to rebuild. With Cristiano, of course, there is a player who scores 25 goals per season.”
