Desiree Ellis, the coach of the South African senior women’s team, Banyana Banyana, has announced the final squad of 23 players for the upcoming 2023 Women’s World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The selected squad consists of 3 goalkeepers, 7 defenders, 6 midfielders, and 7 forwards.
One notable player is Thembi Kgatlana, a well-known South African women’s football star.

In addition, the squad includes three substitute players, making the total number of players 26.
Importantly, 6 players from the respected South African women’s club, Mamelodi Sundowns Women FC, have made it into the final squad.
These players are Andile Dlamini (goalkeeper), Karabo Dlamini, Lebohang Ramalepe, Bambanani Mbane, Thsetso Makhubela (defenders), and Melinda Khagiate.
The Nigerian women’s team, the Super Falcons, also recently announced their team roster for the tournament.
Both teams are determined to represent the African continent at the highest level and leave their mark in the competition.
The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place from July 20 to August 20, 2023.
This edition will feature an expanded format of 32 teams, similar to the men’s World Cup structure from 1998 to 2022.
