Victor Osimhen’s sensational hat-trick fueled Napoli’s dominant 6-1 victory over Sassuolo, as Napoli cruised to their first victory in their last five matches.
Napoli were coming from a heartbreaking last-minute draw against Cagliari where Osimhen’s 65th-minute lead was cancelled by a 96th-minute strike from Zito Luvumbo.
It seems as though the Partenopei hasn’t moved on from the disappointment, as they were pegged back in the 16th minute of today’s encounter when Uros Racic capitalised on his team-mate’s clearance to put Sassuolo ahead.
However, the current Scudetto holders turned the game ahead shortly after the half-hour mark, scoring three goals within twelve minutes.
Amir Rrahmani grabbed Napoli’s first goal, before Osimhen took majestic control of the game, first by converting from close range from Matteo Politano’s pass to take his tally to three goals in three matches since he returned from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ten minutes after Francesco Calzona’s men took the lead through Osimhen, the Nigerian made it 3-1 after yet another lovely combination with Politano.
It took the current CAF African Player of the Year less than two minutes into the second half to complete his hat-trick, as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia leveraged on a defensive blunder from Sassuolo to set the 25-year-old up for Napoli’s fourth goal at the Mapei Stadium.
Before he was substituted off, Osimhen assisted Kvaratskhelia for his first goal of the match in the 51st minute, before the Georgian completed his brace in the 75th minute to wrap up Napoli’s first Serie A away win since November 2023.
