The race for highest scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, has taken a new dimension after Rivers United forward Chijioke Akuneto scored a brace in yesterday’s matchday 33.
After scoring twice to inspire Rivers United to victory over Abia Warriors with a 2-1 win at home on Sunday, Chijioke Akuneto climbed to the top of the league’s scorers chart with 16 goals.
With just five games left in the 2021/22 season, the 24-year-old, who is in his breakthrough season with Rivers United, has produced back-to-back braces in Rivers United’s past two home matches to make it to the top of the scoring chart.
