Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu was completely furious and didn’t hold back after Trabzonspor’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Fenerbahçe in the Turkish Super Lig.
The Nigeria international felt robbed when his first-half goal was disallowed by VAR, leaving him highly disappointed with the officiating of the game.
Paul Onuachu questions Turkish Super Lig officiating
By the end of the night, his frustration spilt into sharp criticism of the league’s referees.
The drama unfolded early when Onuachu rose highest in the 11th minute to head home what he thought was his team’s opener.
His celebrations, however, were cut short when referee Ozan Ergün was advised to check a foul in the build-up. After a lengthy VAR review, the goal was cancelled.
Onuachu’s frustration only grew. He protested the call, earning a yellow card for dissent, before making his feelings crystal clear after the final whistle.
“It’s a shame for the Turkish league! They have to do better,” the striker said while storming through the tunnel.
Fenerbahçe edge past Trabzonspor in tight clash
Despite the setback, Trabzonspor kept pushing but failed to find a breakthrough.
Instead, it was Moroccan forward Youssef En-Nesyri who found the back of the net for Fenerbahçe, securing a narrow but decisive victory.
The result not only handed Trabzonspor a painful defeat but also left Onuachu frustrated with what he believed was poor officiating undermining the spirit of the game.
For a player who joined Trabzonspor from Southampton with hopes of making an impact, moments like this obviously fuel his determination to keep fighting.
