Ishaq Kayode Rafiu brace and Chijioke Akuneto second half goal sealed a 3-0 win and all 3 points for the hosts over Katsina United.

Rafiu Kayode led Stanley Eguma’s side off to a good start in Port Harcourt with a goal just before the half-hour mark.

Rafiu picked up where he left off in the second half, doubling Rivers United’s lead in the 57th minute, before Akuneto secured the victory five minutes later with the hosts’ third goal.

Rivers United dominated from the outset, pulling within two points of Enyimba International FC, whom they will meet next in Aba on Wednesday, December 29.

The seasoned coach discussed the team’s performance, score, and NPFL matchday three stalemate in Aba on Wednesday.

According to the Rivers United gaffer, its not time yet to start celebrating as the new campaign is just kicking off and the team has managed to play just two games.

The league is just beginning, its not yet time for us to start celebrating. This is just the second league match and i know its going to be a long race. We’ll take it from here, make sure we maintain the tempo and improve from our goal scoring ability,” he said.

Stanley Eguma added;

Today we saw the goals, we were able to convert our chances. The player were clinical today and that’s what were expecting because a lot of chances were created, we had upper hand in the game. In the first half, we should have scored more goals but it started coming in the second half. I commend the players for their efforts they put in today.”
