Ahead of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, the league’s Board has ordered clubs to upgrade their stadium facilities to ensure their grounds meet the Facility Requirements of the Club Licensing Regulations[pdf].
This was included as a reminder in a letter inviting clubs to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) signed by Davidson Owumi, the NPFL Chief Operating Officer (COO), dated July 2.
Owumi complimented the clubs on completing the last season successfully and extended the invitation to the Annual General Meeting.
“As we look forward to the meeting, letters have been written to some of the clubs whose facilities were found not suitable to host the NPFL matches in the new season in compliance with provisions of Facility Requirements of the Club Licensing Regulations,” Owumi stated in the letter.
The NPFL Board also informed the clubs through the letter that some have already been informed of the unacceptable conditions of their playing turf and the absence of broadcast support facilities, including elevated camera stands.
The COO urged the clubs that had yet to receive the letters to self-review their facilities to ensure they meet the approval requirements.
The clubs ordered to work on the defects in their facilities include Abia Warriors, Sunshine Stars, Shooting Stars, Kwara United, Niger Tornadoes, Plateau United, and the newly promoted El-Kanemi Warriors.
Clubs who fail to upgrade their facilities face the prospect of playing on alternative grounds.
With the 2024/25 NPFL scheduled to kick off on August 31, 2024, the AGM will deliberate on the season ahead on July 15 and 16 in Lagos. The exact venue is yet to be announced.
