The Nigeria men’s national football team have moved 14 places up to 28th position in the latest FIFA ranking released on February 15, 2024.

At the last ranking as of December 21, 2023, the Super Eagles of Nigeria were ranked 42 with 1474 points. In the latest rankings, they now have 1522.26 points.

However, despite the significant jump in ranking by 14 places, Nigeria remains the third-best-ranked team in Africa behind Morocco, who sit at 12th, and Senegal at the 17th position.

Nigeria’s latest FIFA ranking comes just four days after the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) where the Super Eagles lost 2-1 to hosts Côte d’Ivoire (39) in a historic end to the continental showpiece.

At AFCON Nigeria won four matches and drew two only losing in the final to the Elephants after defeating them in the group stage by a lone goal. Nigeria faced Equatorial Guinea (79), Guinea-Bissau (118), Cameroon (51), Angola (93), and South Africa (58).

Nigeria was ranked 5th in 1994, its highest FIFA ranking ever. In the 21st century, the Super Eagles have only managed to reach 26th so far.
