Nigeria’s Cyriel Dessers has expressed his desire to stay at Rangers, after leading the Scottish club to a crucial 3-1 victory over Ross County on Wednesday night.
The striker opened the scoring for Rangers in the fifth minute, before scoring a header late in the half to make it 2-1, and complete a first-half brace that took his tally for Rangers to 14 goals across all competitions this season.
The victory sees the Light Blues go level on 61 points with league leaders Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, after 25 games.
Reacting to his MOTM performance, Dessers reiterated his commitment to Rangers via Rangers TV, saying “I am in a good place right now and I want to stay there. I am coming into a lot of good positions to score, there are a lot of chances, and it is all about efficiency.
“If we can get the efficiency up, or I can get it up even more then I can provide a lot of goals for the team for the rest of the season so I think it is a nice goal and we will get there.”
The 29-year-old also emphasised the importance of maximising scoring opportunities, both individually and collectively after Rangers managed to only score three out of 23 shots on target against Ross County at the Ibrox Stadium on Wednesday night.
“We were sometimes unlucky, sometimes the finishing could’ve been better,” he said.
“Their goalkeeper had a lot of saves but let’s save these goals for the rest of the season and in the games where we need them to win.
“We just kept doing what we are always doing and what we always try to do and today we were a little bit unlucky, but I hope next time we are a bit more lucky when we need it.”
Next up for Cyriel Dessers and Rangers will be a trip to McDiarmid Park where they’ll face 10-placed St. Johnstone on Wednesday, February 18, for their Scottish Premiership round of 26 fixture.
