Leave the north London club to ‘rebuild your career’ – Tottenham legend to Dele Alli

Following his latest no-show in Thursday’s humbling defeat to NS Mura, former Chelsea attacker and Tottenham icon Clive Allen has stated that Dele Alli should leave the north London club in order to ‘rebuild his career.’Dele Alli

Spurs were startled by the Europa Conference League’s lowest-ranked team, who had lost all four of their previous matches — losing a late 2-1 defeat to the Slovenian underdogs.

After Harry Kane had earlier cancelled out Tomi Horvat’s stunning opening, Antonio Conte’s side was defeated by Amadej Marosa’s stoppage-time strike.

And Alli, who was once regarded as England’s future after breaking through at Spurs and won the Young Player of the Year title for two seasons in a row, had yet another evening to forget.

The 25-year-old has struggled to make an impact in the game, and Allen, who played 105 times for the north London club between 1984 and 1988, believes he needs to ‘go back to fundamentals’ or perhaps quit the club to regain his previous self.

Allen said on the talkSPORT Breakfast;

What we’re seeing is a shadow of the Dele Alli we know, a shadow of the player that can make runs from midfield, score goals, link up with Harry Kane and be devastating. I feel for him. It’s the most difficult time in his career. There doesn’t seem to be a real desire.”

He added;

I don’t know how hard on the training ground. Unless you do the basic right, you’re going to suffer. His ability will come through but that hard work needs to be put in.”

Allen further noted that;

Dele Alli needs to go right back to basics and rebuild his career. He’s so talented but it might be that he has to leave Spurs now.”
