Barcelona new signing – Jules Kounde has revealed the most important reason he chose the Spanish giants over Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.
The 23-year-old defender admits that Xavi, the Blaugrana’s manager, had a big impact on his choice to join them over Chelsea.
Jules Koundé was introduced as Barcelona’s fifth summer signing on Thursday after the team officially announced an agreement with Sevilla earlier in the day.
Earlier this month, Kounde and Sevilla reached complete agreements with Chelsea, but the center-back delayed making a decision to give Barcelona enough time to match the Blues’ offer.
Once the financial arrangements were in shape, Kounde ultimately made the decision to move to Camp Nou.
After his transfer finally pulled through, Kounde talked to Barca TV to thank Xavi for his role in bringing the lengthy process to a favourable end.
The French center-back gave a brief interview to the club’s official channel soon after arriving at Camp Nou, when he lauded his new coach.
“Xavi is largely responsible for the decision. His speech excited me. I spoke several times with him. The conversations were very fluid and he gave me the feeling that we see football in the same way. I’m going to come and hopefully do my best to play a leading role for this club” – Kounde admitted.

The defender further said;
“I’m very proud, grateful and excited because I have arrived at a very big club with a team that is also like that. I want to start playing with the team and join my team-mates as soon as possible. Sevilla are a great club but Barcelona is one more step in my career on every level, especially sporting. I will try to win as many titles as possible.”
