Luton Town FC striker Elijah Adebayo has expressed his desire to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Adebayo, who was born in England to Nigerian parents, has scored nine goals in 23 league appearances for the Hatters this season.
Currently sidelined with a potential season-ending hamstring injury, the 26-year-old striker revealed his admiration for the Super Eagles during an interview on What’s in the Hat show on Sky Sports.
When asked what his heritage means to him, the ex-Fullham star said, “Heritage is big for me obviously. My mum, she was born Nigerian, she came here and although I’ve been to Nigeria when I was young, I am also looking to go again. Grandma lives in Nigeria.
“The Heritage is there and I am proud to be Nigerian, and I would love to play for Nigeria. My mum would be very very proud to see me play for Nigeria as well. It’s special.”
Before he picked up the hamstring injury in February, Adebayo had scored nine goals across 28 appearances for the Hatters. He remains the club’s top-scorer of the season, despite playing six games less than Carlton Morris who’s trailing with eight goals.
Adebayo’s teammate at Luton Town Gabriel Osho received his inaugural call-up to the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming friendlies against Ghana and Mali. Unfortunately, Osho has been compelled to withdraw from the squad due to an injury setback.
