204

Bayelsa Queens emerged as the champions of the 2023 Women’s Federation Cup in an exciting match at Stephen Keshi Stadium.

They defeated their bitter rivals, Rivers Angels, in a thrilling penalty shootout on June 21.

The first half of the match was uneventful, with both teams struggling to score.

The intensity increased in the second half, but no goals were scored, resulting in a goalless draw after 90 minutes.

In the subsequent penalty shootout, Bayelsa Queens outperformed Rivers Angels and won 4-2.

Chiamaka Okuchukwu missed her shot, and Agyaakwa Sofia’s kick was saved by Bayelsa Queens’ goalkeeper, Onyinyechukwu Okeke.

This victory marks Bayelsa Queens’ consecutive wins, as they previously secured the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League Bronze title.

Although they couldn’t defend their 2023 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) title, they find consolation in their Federation Cup success.

Bayelsa Queens have dominated over Rivers Angels this year, defeating them four times in their South-South derby meetings.

Bayelsa Queens received a prize money of N10 million naira for their outstanding achievement, while Rivers Angels, the runners-up, were awarded N5 million naira.
