Ex-Super Eagles midfielder Oladimeji Lawal says Super Eagles head coach Finidi George won’t disappoint Nigerians ahead as he eases into his new role.
Following George’s appointment in April, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau in a discussion with Soccer Africa last week said the gaffer’s primary task is to ensure the Eagles qualify for the 2026 World Cup and make it to the competition’s quarter-final
The primary tasks, no doubt wouldn’t come any easy, as Nigeria are currently lagging in the race to qualify for the Mundial. The three-time African champions got two points from a possible six after the opening rounds of qualifying fixtures under Jose Peseiro.
Despite this, Lawal believes George has what it takes to overturn Peseiro’s deficit.
“I sincerely think Finidi won’t disappoint Nigerians, knowing fully the task at hand,” Lawal told Complete Sports.
“Having been with Jose Peseiro for 20 months, I want to believe he would have learned a few things and, with his additional knowledge, be ready for the task at hand.
“He knows the players and will definitely deliver the job regardless of the pressure.”
