The 28-year-old Super Falcons forward delivered the key moment in the 33rd minute, setting up Kaylee Hunter for the only goal of the match at TD Place Stadium.

Okoronkwo’s consistent brilliance for AFC Toronto

The result stretches Toronto’s lead at the top of the table to nine points, strengthening their grip on the title race.

Okoronkwo played 85 minutes before making way for Jade Kovacevic, but by then her brilliance had already defined the game.

Her sharp vision and perfectly weighted pass cut through Ottawa’s defence, allowing Hunter to fire home what proved to be the winner.

This latest contribution adds to an extraordinary season for the 2024 WAFCON champion. She has now been involved in 22 goals in 24 matches for AFC Toronto this year — scoring 10 and assisting 12.

A star driving Toronto’s title push

Okoronkwo’s recent form has been impressive. In her last five matches for Toronto, she has scored four goals and provided two assists.

Her impact has been spread across key fixtures: one goal against Halifax Tides, a brace plus an assist against Vancouver Rise, another strike in the return fixture with Halifax, and now the crucial assist versus Ottawa Rapid.

The victory over Ottawa not only widens the points gap but also shows Toronto’s dominance in the league.

With her decisive performances, Okoronkwo is gradually emerging as one of the frontrunners for the 2025 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.
