Super Eagles’ Frank Onyeka put in a great midfield shit in Brentford’s 1-0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.
Onyeka, who was named in the Bees’ starting lineup for the first time since he arrived from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), was one of Brentford’s best players on the night.
The ex-Midtjylland star registered the first shot on target from the away team, sending the ball into the palms of Ederson after he broke clear from the midfield inside the opening 30 minutes.
Although Manchester City were the better side, with the best chances at scoring, Brentford also looked threatening on the counter throughout the first half.
A few minutes into the second half, Thomas Frank’s side worked out a quick counter past City’s half, and Onyeka once again had the opportunity to put his side ahead, but his goal-bound header was saved by an alert Ederson who kept Pep Guardiola’s side in the game.
The Bees were however made to regret their missed chances in the 71st minute when Erling Haaland capitalized on Kristoffer Ajer’s las-tman slip to put City ahead before the Norwegian netted another that’d eventually be cancelled for an offside in the buildup.
The lone goal was enough for Manchester City to secure the maximum points and increase the pressure on Liverpool, while Brentford remains on edge, only five points clear of the relegation zone.
