Benfica 1-3 Liverpool: Luis Diaz seal win in Lisbon

Liverpool are in cruise control as they Reds now have a foot in the Champions League semi-final after a 3-1 quarter-final victory over Benfica in Lisbon.

Thanks to goals from Konate, Mane and Luis Diaz, the visitors now have a comfortable advantage returning back to Anfield.

Before half time break, Benfica had chances, but Jurgen Klopp’s men displayed some fantastic football to seal the victory on Tuesday night.

At halftime, Liverpool was in perfect command, with 11 shots to Benfica’s four.

Diaz and Mane, who combined wonderfully for the visitors’ second goal, as well as Konate, who put in a perfect defensive performance after opening the score, have all caused Benfica problems.

Four minutes into the second half, the home team was given a lifeline. As the Eagles pulled back a goal, Konate, who had been brilliant all through the game, was unexpectedly at fault.

After Konate completely missed Silva’s low cross, Nunez was on hand to score a great goal past Allison.

But Diaz’s late goal put the Reds in a great position, and they will be heavily fancied to finish the job at Anfield next week.
