Super Eagles of Nigeria winger Ademola Lookman has revealed the toughest opponent the side faced at the 2023, Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
Lookman and William Troost-Ekong were Nigeria’s joint topscorers of the competition with three goals. The duo, plus Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina also made it into the XI of the tournament.
The Super Eagles navigated their way past the likes of Côte d’Ivoire in the group stage, before facing Cameroon and South Africa in the knockout stages.
However, Lookman overlooked these powerhouses to name the Super Eagles’ group stage opener against Equatorial Guinea as the toughest challenge.
“Probably Equatorial Guinea because we played at 2 pm, the heat and humidity was tough for us. Probably you have to say that game,” the 26-year-old said in an interview with Calister Enejele.
The Atalanta forward also said his second goal against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16 was his favourite of the tournament.
“My favourite goal was the second goal against Cameroon, it gave me goosebumps, my parents were watching,” Lookman revealed.
