The opening match of Cameroon’s World Cup run ended in defeat to Switzerland. Breel Embolo scored the only goal, which came three minutes after halftime.

Rigobert Song’s team was trying to avoid a loss to stay in the competition and prevent a poor record when it happened, after Cameroon had been the better team all through the game.

Serbia has struggled at the World Cup as well. They also had their first loss in Group G, falling to tournament contenders Brazil, who earned all three points.

At the half, Cameroon was poised to lead, but goals from Pavlovic and Milinkovic-Savic in stoppage time turned the game in Serbia’s favor.

Mitrovic missed two fantastic opportunities, and Song’s squad was the one to break the stalemate. Tolo delivered a corner and Castelletto blasted it into the net from close range.

Serbia fought back, though, and scored twice in the last seconds of the first half to regain the lead.

Tadic’s free-kick was converted by Pavlovic past Epassy to achieve parity, and Milinkovic-Savic then curled a strike into the bottom corner.

Before the Cameroon coach made his substitute, it seemed as though Serbia had already won all three points as Mitrovic finished a brilliant play for Serbia.

The difference was the extra striker, Aboubakar coming in to replace Hongla. The 30-year-old recovered a goal with a fantastic chip and after a VAR review, he was awarded the goal.

Then, two minutes later, the Super sub set up the leveller. Choupo-Moting, who was on the right, had a wonderfully easy finish after he cut the ball to him.

Cameroon will play Brazil in the last Group G match, and Serbia will face Switzerland. Both groups are aware that they must win their last match to go to the World Cup’s knockout round.
